5 Photography Resources I Learn From

I haven’t been posting twice weekly like I planned to because I’ve been more focused on my photography business. If you follow this blog, you’ll already know that I make stock images and sell on a number of platforms to earn extra cash to keep this blog up.

I started by taking great selfies, playing with angles and lights using my smartphone and then up to a small camera, taking pictures of locations I traveled to. Then I had a light bulb moment and decided to get a Nikon DSLR to take better pictures for this blog.

The camera cost me a lot of money and I wanted it to earn it’s keep so I started googling how to make money from photography and here I am. I sold my first image in June last year and if I keep hitting my targets, the business will own the camera and photography gear by November this year.

Anyway, this post is a collection of people I watched and and sites I visited to learn photography tips from. Some, if not all of them are on Youtube so it really only cost me time and data.

So as requested, here they are:

Coursera:
Photography Basics and Beyond: From Smartphone to DSLR: Whether your camera is a Smartphone or DSLR, a Compact or Mirrorless model, you will learn to gain control of exposure and understand fundamentals of composition, while exploring documentary and creative concepts to make the kinds of photographs you have always wanted.
You don’t have to pay for the course, just select the audit course option and follow the videos.

Peter McKinnon
He is a Canadian Photographer teaching photography and cinematography on his self titled YouTube Channel, while drinking a lot of coffee. He also teaches a bit of Adobe Lightroom I think. Watch him below.

Joanie Simon
She’s the “pixie-haired food photographer, educator, wife, Mom and potato lover.” Her Channel is called The Bite Shot, where she teaches Food Photography, Styling, Composition, Props, lighting and all that good stuff.

Jared Polin
Are you looking to take better photos? Are you not sure how to use your camera or simply want to pick up a few photography tips. If so you’ve come to the right channel, FroKnowsPhoto.

I really like Jared and his big Afro with the comb in it. He gives very helpful tips on making better photos and videos and also tutorials on Adobe Photoshop

Digital Photography For Dummies
You probably already know about the dummies series and its basic approach to teaching some of the most technical courses. This book “covers the technical and mechanical aspects of digital photography, as well as the aesthetics of it. The text discusses the problems of the casual photographer and provides practical advice on how to solve problems that the amateur user commonly encounters but lacks the knowledge or inspiration to solve.” If you can, get yourself a copy.

Well, this is all I have got. You really can be a better photographer just by using these free resources and so, I hope you find these vloggers, courses and books as helpful as I have. You’ll find my portfolio here: Red Confidential Portfolio . In the meantime, follow and tag me in your Instagram images if you do. Good-luck!

Know anyone you think I should follow and learn photography tips and tricks from? Let me know in the comments!
As always, thank you for reading!
