PhD Diaries: March 2020 Recap

Hey there, friends! So, last month was quite a rollercoaster with the Coronavirus spreading from China to Europe and America. As a result, businesses and schools have been shutting down left and right.

This situation has had a pretty big impact on my studies, and here’s how:

  1. I lost my job, and I’ve got to admit, I’m really worried about keeping a roof over my head and taking care of other expenses like internet and power bills.
  2. I was super excited about some workshops I had planned, especially one on using NVivo for literature reviews. Sadly, they’ve all been cancelled now.

  3. Not being able to get my hands on the books I need from the library is quite a bummer. I’m limited to the journals I can find online for my literature review.

Even though I’m an introvert, this mandatory self-isolation thing is tough! The past 4 weeks have been a real challenge, especially when it comes to my mental well-being, staying productive, adapting to the new normal, and keeping my focus on my research. But let’s take a breath and slow down a bit.

First off, I thought my blog could use a fresh look, so I installed this cool new theme! I want to post more often, but lately, it feels like time is just blending together—today feels like yesterday, the day before, and even tomorrow. So, I’ve fallen back into starting posts and not finishing or publishing them.

In other news, I got the results for my research proposal and scored a solid 70%! My supervisors had some great suggestions, like adding more recent references and narrowing down my research scope. One of them even said, “It’s a whole loaf, but the PhD is really about getting into a single slice of bread.” So, I’m diving deep into my research interest and getting ready to write my literature review.

Here’s a little sneak peek of what’s coming up on the blog:

  • NVivo Training
  • Not a Diet Book
  • Coronavirus
  • Quarantine Life
  • Working – Drunk Guy
  • Meeting Online
  • Upcoming Review in May
  • Spring Cleaning

Stay tuned, and take care, everyone!

Now tell me, how was your 2020? What are you doing differently in 2021?
