This year, Hollywood promises a lot of great movies; new stories, sequels and prequels. There’s something for everyone; action, science fiction, drama and horror. So make a plan to go to your favourite cinema a lot this year.
This list is a collection of movies I’m eager to watch and my reasons why.
- Red Sparrow
From Hunger Games and X-Men, Jennifer Lawrence is kicking ass as a Prima ballerina turned seductive Russian Spy Dominika Egorova, after surviving the Sparrow School which trains young people to use their bodies as weapons. I think she falls in love with a CIA agent but if you watch the trailer you can decide for yourself. Release Date: 1 March 2018. - The Commuter
It’s Liam Neeson. I shouldn’t have to say more. But if you aren’t convinced, I think his wife is being held hostage. You know how it goes from there. Here, he is on the train and forced to find a passenger before the last stop. If it’s Liam, you know it’s about to get crazy and we are here for that. It’s already out in our Nigerian Cinemas too! Go see it. I will. - Proud Mary
Cookie has gone crazy in this one. Taraji Henson is a hit woman with too many guns in my opinion. However, watching her do kettle bell push-ups in this trailer made me want to hit the gym and get stronger. Apparently, she kills a little boy’s parents or something. After Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde, I’m ready for some black girl action. Release Date: 12th January 2018 - A Quiet Place
This is a horror movie where a family of four live in complete silence. I mean, not a pin drops or something will come to hunt them. They don’t speak, laugh or cry. They use sign language to communicate. They tip-toe around their home. The motto is “If they can’t hear you, they can’t hunt you”. Release Date: 6 April 2018. Meanwhile, watch the trailer. - Avenger; Infinity War
Every super hero is going to be at this one, Iron Man, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Dr Strange, Captain America, Spiderman, Flash and even the Guardians of the Galaxy. Issa Convention. I hope this movie lives up to the seemingly endless hype because I was a little disappointed in Justice League, and feel like I am slowly losing my taste for these superhero movies. The only reason this movie is on this list is because our very own Funke Akindele gets a part in it. I don’t expect she will play a major role, but I am happy about the recognition. Release Date: 25 April 2018 - The New Mutants
After Logan’s death, I swore I was done with the X-men and mutants. However, the New Mutants which is the thirteenth instalment in the X-Men film series may be more horror than Science fiction. Young mutants appear to be held in a facility with this creepy doctor lady who runs tests on them. Released Date: 22nd February 2018 - Mission Impossible 6
Well, Tom Cruise is jumping up and down again in the 6th instalment in the Mission Impossible series and I wonder if it will ever end. I have no idea what Ethan’s mission is this time but I’ll bet there’s a lady in the mix. I’m watching this for old-time sake. Tom Cruise was a childhood crush and in my head, we still mean something to each other. I support his hustle. Release date 27 July 2018. - Fifty Shades Freed
Ah, our erotic, role-playing billionaire Christian has finally married our innocent confused sister Ana, but there is still more. Leaving behind bondage, discipline, submission, sadomasochism, and dominance, Christian and Ana start marital life, but I think someone is still after them. This movie may be one to spice up things in the bedroom for married folks. I’m looking forward to this for the soundtrack. The Fifty shades series always has really great soundtracks. Release Date: 8 February 2018 - Alpha
This one ranks this high for me because I love dogs. A movie telling about out the origin of our relationship with these four-legged friends is sure to be interesting. On his first hunt, a boy is left for dead and wakes to find he is alone and injured. The trailer suggests that he saves and tames an abandoned wolf and they sort of become allies. Release Date: March 2nd 2018. - Black Panther
Here for the Culture! We haven’t had many black superheroes since Hancock, but Black Panther is here to change that. The upcoming movie will feature a number of black actors including Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, and Angela Bassett. Release Date: 16 February 2018

Word on the street is Funke Akindele has been dropped from the Avengers movie….. looking forward to seeing the movies on this list tho I am not a movie buff. While you wait you can get a glimpse of my horrible acting skills in this short film https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voPM4WRf8tc&t=1446s . I will understand if you dont watch it but hey I thought I’d give it a shot
