I stumbled on this Twitter thread a few nights ago and found it very enlightening.
A lot is said in jest and Jason Steed has an interesting perspective on humor, it’s social use and implications. Enjoy.
Besides the reference to Mr Trump and the political context, I think this has a lot of relevance in our daily lives, with respect to our social interaction with others; friends, family and colleagues.
While being witty is admirable, we should put more thought to our utterances and understand what we are really communicating or at the very least endorsing when we have to say “just kidding”, “na joke na” or “ordinary play”.
